Dallas Pets Alive! announced in a statement this week that its founder and CEO Leslie Sans was appointed to Best Friends Animal Society‘s Network Strategy Council.
Sans founded the volunteer-based DPA in our neighborhood in 2012, helping rescue animals at risk of being euthanized at North Texas shelters and providing assistance to those who struggle to care for their pets.
The statement describes the Best Friends Network as a consortium of over 5,500 animal welfare organizations and shelters, of which DPA is a part. From these partners, 16 leaders are selected to the Network Strategy Council, which offers advice on how to best support rescue groups and shelters in the United States.
As part of its mission, the local volunteer-based rescue organization DPA seeks to make Dallas a no-kill community, meaning no dogs or cats in the city’s shelters would be euthanized. On a larger scale, the national Best Friends organization seeks to make the entire nation no-kill.
In the statement, Sans said, “This appointment is an incredible opportunity to share our innovative, community-driven approach to rescue. I look forward to working alongside leaders from across the country to advance lifesaving practices that will bring us closer to a no-kill nation.”
