City warning residents of scam email impersonating planning commission | Rockport Pilot

The City of Rockport is warning residents of a scam that sends fraudulent emails out impersonating the city’s planning commission.

In a release sent by the city on June 5, the city was made aware of the emails which are claiming to be from the “City of Rockport Planning Commission.”

In the release city officials stated residents should not respond to the emails, pay any fees or fines requested, click any links and provide any personal or financial information.

They also reminded residents that official communications from the city will come directly from the city not individual commissioners, the city will never request banking information by way of email, any legitimate city correspondence will include the city’s official letterhead and contact information and contact city hall if there are any questions.

If one of these emails are received, city officials advise residents to delete the email immediately, do not respond, report it to the city at phone number 361-790-1125 and if you did respond contact local law enforcement.
