This week proved to be extra special for pet parents who love to show off their fur babies—not just because of Halloween, but because of National Cat Day, too. And what better way to honor these independent sidekicks than to highlight our readers’ cats?
Think your pet deserves the spotlight? Follow the instructions at the end to see how you can submit your pet to be featured in an upcoming edition of Newsweek’s Pet of the Week.
Winner

This week’s winner is Little Bit. Owner Judy Burroughs-McCord told Newsweek that a woman found Little Bit in a rainstorm covered with fleas. Because the woman could not take care of her, Burroughs-McCord brought her home.
From the moment she welcomed Little Bit into her life, she’s been one of the most loving cats she’s ever had. And one of the things Little Bit loves the most? Her tail.
The video shows Little Bit carefully balancing on top of the chair, attempting to catch her tail in between the spindles.
“When she turned about eight months old, she started messing around with the chair, and now I can’t keep her from chasing her tail,” Burroughs-McCord said.
Finalists

Our first finalist of this week comes from owner Andrea Little, who adopted two rescue kittens.
Recently retired, Little knew she had extra time on her hands and offered to be a foster parent to help the Humane Society of Brooksville in Florida. She originally thought one would be enough, but she drove home with two kittens that had been thrown out of a car, she told Newsweek.
The two kitties became inseparable, with the female cat telling her brother what to do. Little ended up naming them Ross and Monica, after the characters from the TV show Friends. She fell in love with both, and they became a “foster failure.”
“Monica is always busy doing things,” she said. “She is a naughty girl and gets in trouble, like stealing earrings or any kind of sparkling things. Ross tags along and warns her when we are near.”

Next up is owner Jeff Reilly and his gray cat, Thor. The picture perfectly captures how cats can be full of personality, as Thor’s tongue was sticking out at Reilly.
In a playful mood, Thor exposed his belly, a sign of trust from cats, and extended his paws to the side. It was like an open invitation for Reilly to scratch his belly, but the tongue and crazed eyes warned that his hand might get attacked.

Although it was National Cat Day, we can’t forget about our canine friends, some of whom got into the Halloween spirit. That leads up to our last finalist, Tippy.
This 3-year-old Shih Tzu and Chihuahua mix captured our hearts as she rocked Halloween bows in her hair. The black and orange accessory even had a skull printed on it.
But this dog is anything but scary. Owner Jennifer Moore told Newsweek that Tippy is the sweetest dog she’s ever had.
“My favorite thing about her is her sweet nature,” Moore said. “Her favorite spot is in my lap! She also sits on her hind legs with her front paws bent.”
