Blackburn filmmaker aims to challenge how films make money

Indie Crib, founded by filmmaker Aeman Ali Afzal, aims to give filmmakers a route to release their work and earn from audiences through ‘built-in support and monetisation tools’.

Within its first week, Aeman said, the platform has onboarded over 50 filmmakers, with multiple films already live and actually generating revenue.

He said the launch comes in response to a long-standing issue within the industry, where many independent films struggle to find distribution or meaningful financial return after completion or after festival runs.

Aeman said: “Most filmmakers spend years creating something, only for it to disappear online with no real audience or income.

“I built Indie Crib to change that, to give filmmakers a place where their work can actually be seen and supported without the extortionate fees from aggregators and distributors.

“Our films may get on Prime or Netflix, but they are quickly buried in a massive catalogue behind major blockbuster movies.”

Indie Crib operates as a self-distribution platform, allowing creators to retain ‘full control’ of their work while connecting directly with viewers.

The platform enables creators to upload, showcase, and earn from their films while retaining full ownership of their work.

Early platform data shows audiences already accessing content from the UK, the United States, and India.

He added: “This isn’t about competing with Netflix or the big players.

“It’s about building something that actually works for filmmakers, where they don’t just upload their film and hope for the best.”

Indie Crib is currently in its early growth phase, with plans to expand its catalogue, introduce additional monetisation features, and scale its global audience over the coming months.
