Aces embrace Iowa women’s basketball star’s new professional venture

With former Iowa women’s basketball legend Megan Gustafson’s recent release of her first children’s book, “Pancake’s Passport,” based on the global travels with her pet corgi, Pancake, the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces have fully embraced and celebrated their fellow teammates’ monumental personal career feat.

While Gustafson serves as a reserve center role off the bench for the Aces behind reigning league MVP A’Ja Wilson, the former Hawkeye showcased her Pancake-themed shoes during Las Vegas’ Thursday night victory over the Phoenix Mercury.

The specialized Nike kicks have drawings of colorful suitcases throughout both shoes, with a drawing of Pancake holding a passport near the outer ankle and the wordmark of the 128-page children’s literature on the front.

During halftime of Thursday’s game, the Aces held a corgi race to celebrate Gustafson’s book, with numerous four-legged companions racing from between both end lines before gathering alongside Pancake for a group photo.

One of the most unique components of Gustafson’s book is that she elected not to partner with a traditional publisher, but rather to create her own publishing company, The Inspired Bookshelf.

By creating her own company and promoting her own book, Gustafson is able to utilize the marketing skills obtained from her bachelor’s degree in marketing earned from the University of Iowa in 2019, and her recently completed MBA from Iowa’s Tippie College of Business.

After the game, Gustafson proudly posted on X that she is officially an author and a WNBA player, while holding the first copy of her book in her right hand and a smiling Pancake in her left hand.

“Pancake’s Passport” is available on Amazon in paperback, hardcover, and Kindle formats. For more information, including book reviews, bios of the book team, and contact details, visit the official website for Gustafson’s book.
