Starting a new job can be overwhelming. There are unfamiliar faces to meet, a new workspace to figure out and the exhausting pressure of making a good first impression. Well, one tiny new dog employee found a much easier solution: simply don’t come out of your bag.
In an adorable YouTube Short posted by Keanu the Pomeranian, our protagonist Keanu accompanies his person to the office for his first official day as the office dog. But anyone expecting him to spend the shift making rounds, charming coworkers or supervising meetings is going to be disappointed. Our little Pom Pom settles into his carrier, gets comfortable and apparently sees absolutely no reason to leave. By the end of the video, his bag has earned a much more appropriate job title: his “emotional support bag.”

Pom Pom’s First Day as Office Dog Is Impressively Low-Effort
There’s something particularly funny about watching a dog receive an official workplace title and immediately reject almost every responsibility we imagined came with it.
In the video, Keanu is nestled inside his carrier as office life continues around him. He isn’t running from desk to desk to collect attention or trying to join anyone’s lunch break. Instead, he appears perfectly content to observe the workday from his cozy little headquarters.
The creator jokes that he didn’t come out of the bag once, and viewers immediately understood the assignment. “He sleeps like he’s the one doing 9-5,” one person joked. Another declared he is the “ideal office dog,” and it’s difficult to argue with that performance review. He’s quiet, keeps to himself and apparently has no interest in scheduling a meeting that could have been an email.
The carrier also makes his first day unexpectedly relatable. New environments can involve unfamiliar people, sounds, smells and routines for dogs, so having a familiar resting spot available can give them somewhere to settle while they take everything in. The American Kennel Club (AKC) recommends bringing a bed or designated resting space for dogs in the workplace and giving them time to investigate a new office environment at their own pace.
It’s the same reason seeing a Golden Retriever discover an “emotional support pillow” during a veterinary visit feels so familiar. Sometimes the best thing in an unfamiliar place is finding one spot that feels comfortable.

How Can You Help a Dog Adjust to an Office?
Keanu staying inside his bag makes for an excellent joke, but a short video can’t tell us exactly why he preferred being there. It’s important not to automatically interpret a dog choosing an enclosed or familiar space as anxiety.
According to the American Kennel Club, dogs communicate discomfort primarily through body language, and signs of stress can include lip licking, yawning, pacing, avoiding eye contact, pinned-back ears and a tucked tail. Context matters, though, and individual dogs respond differently to new environments.
For dogs heading to work with their people, the AKC recommends introducing them to the environment, providing a comfortable place to nap, keeping fresh water accessible, and bringing appropriate toys or treats. A crate or designated space can also offer somewhere to retreat if the activity of an office setting becomes overwhelming.
That means the goal shouldn’t necessarily be getting a shy or cautious office newcomer out of their comfortable spot as quickly as possible. Paying attention to their body language and allowing them time to adjust can be more important than fulfilling our dreams of having a canine coworker making the rounds.
We’ve seen the same principle in much smaller introductions. When a tiny kitten delivered the world’s least intimidating hiss at a golden retriever, the humor came from the interaction, but respecting an animal’s signals still matters even when those signals happen to be ridiculously cute.
As for Keanu, his first shift may have been light on networking, but he’s already mastered one important office skill: finding the best place to sit and staying there until it’s time to go home. Frankly, some of us spend years trying to achieve that level of work-life balance.
