Losing a pet isn’t easy but support can help you cope
Grieving a pet is deeply personal, but no one should go through it alone. Here are meaningful ways to support someone after pet loss.
A Taunton funeral home is offering a heartwarming new service for pet parents grieving the loss of their beloved companions.
Silva Funeral Home, located at 80 Broadway in Taunton, has launched a new “FURbituaries” service on their website, in which the funeral home posts photos and obituaries of pets who have died. The service is offered free of charge to grieving pet parents.
“Our animals are part of our family,” Silva Funeral Home owner Larry Quintal said. “A loss of a pet is devastating.”
“We need to memorialize our pets,” he said. “This new idea is designed to do just that.”
Despite the name furbituary containing the word fur, the service is available to all types of pets, including fish and other aquatic animals. Here’s what we know about the furbituaries service works.
How to submit a Furbituary?
To submit a furbituary, go to the website of Silva Funeral Home, at silvafuneralhome.com, and click on the furbituaries page.
After filling out an online form, pet parents will be able to upload photographs and add text describing their deceased pet. The furbituaries will then be displayed on the Silva Funeral home’s website.
Currently, the funeral home has furbituaries for seven pets, including six dogs.
“Lexie was a happy, friendly, and loving dog who brought so much joy to everyone around her,” read one furbituary on the Silva Funeral Home website. “She loved going on car rides, taking walks, and, of course, being treated to a little something delicious. She was always ready for an adventure and never turned down an opportunity for a treat.”
Another furbituary, this one for Mattie the Rottweiler, described the beloved dog as “the sweetest, most loving soul.”
“Mattie wasn’t simply a pet. She was my baby, my protector, my best friend, and one of the greatest loves of my life. She was the kind of dog whose presence could fill an entire room — all 100-plus pounds of her.”
