LA GRANDE — (Notice from the City of La Grande) The City of La Grande is warning residents and applicants about a scam email impersonating the City’s Planning Department.
The fraudulent email appears to use information from an actual permit application and requests payment of an “Application Review and Approval Fee” through wire transfer. The email uses City of La Grande branding and appears official, but it did not come from the City.
If you receive an email requesting payment or wire-transfer instructions related to a City permit or application:
Do not send money or provide financial information.
Do not reply to the suspicious email.
Verify the request directly with the City of La Grande before making any payment.
Please be especially cautious of messages that come from non-City email addresses or that direct you to make payments by wire transfer.
If you receive a suspicious message, please report it to the City (541-962-1309) so we can help protect other community members.
When in doubt, stop and verify. The City of La Grande will never ask you to send payment based solely on an unexpected email.
