Current spam emails, citizens to block sender’s email address

The Police Directorate has warned citizens about the appearance of spam emails in which, as announced, the sender falsely states that the email is being sent by the Montenegrin police.

The police said that currently unknown individuals sent emails with inaccurate and false content to multiple email addresses during the night and this morning, falsely claiming to be acting on behalf of the Police Directorate of Montenegro.

“Officers of the Crime Prevention Sector, after analyzing the content of the disputed email, determined that it was a so-called spam email, sent using Gmail and containing an attached PDF file, allegedly informing that the recipient was being prosecuted for criminal offenses,” the statement said.

The police stated that the recipient is further requested to respond to the e-mail within the specified deadline, otherwise he/she faces proceedings before the competent court, and it is stated that data on the recipient’s alleged criminal acts will be forwarded to judicial authorities.

“We urge citizens and recipients of this email to be cautious and inform them that they should not respond to such emails, that they should not open attachments that could potentially contain malicious content, but rather that after receiving the email, they should delete it and prohibit the receipt of further emails from the same address,” the statement reads.
