Some lessons have to be learned the hard way. But just because they aren’t easy to learn doesn’t mean that watching someone else learn them isn’t also a riot.
That’s the case with the dog in this Instagram video, who thought that he was the big dog on campus at this campsite, challenging a deer, and then instantly realizing that he isn’t nearly as tough as he thinks he is.
At the start of this clip, the dog spots the deer through the trees and starts barking at her repeatedly. Maybe the dog thought that this area of the forest was his territory, and he wanted to show this deer who was the boss.
However, as soon as the deer came through the trees, it was clear that she was not messing around and that this dog was barking up the wrong tree, so to speak.

She chased that dog away from the trees and out into the open, and he had to run like the wind to get away from her.
Afterward, all he could do was bark like a maniac as this deer stared at the people filming her, possibly wondering what these people and their dog were doing in her neck of the woods.
The Clip Is Hilarious, but Viewers Are Sounding the Alarm: This Could Have Been Dangerous
Some Instagram viewers simply thought that this dog’s encounter with this deer was hilarious: “Deer aren’t supposed to do that. They flee predators. It sensed that the dog was a chicken.”
However, some viewers also pointed out that even though this video was funny and everything turned out all right, this was still a very potentially dangerous encounter for this dog: “All fun until the deer gets close enough. Their front hooves are very effective weapons.”
Other viewers took this idea a step further when they opined: “She probably has a baby she is guarding, and your dog is harassing wildlife, which I believe is frowned upon if you’d call the conservation department and ask.”
