Funny Cat Barks at Mom Just Like a Dog and We Can’t Get Enough

Horse goes neigh. Cow goes moo. Cat goes woof. Wait, is that right? It is for Sage, at any rate, a kitty who absolutely barks in this hilarious video. Even her owner couldn’t believe it with “Did she just bark at me?” as the on-screen text.

She explains to us in the caption, “I annoyed her so much, she forgot what animal she was.” She’s clearly channeling her inner dog here!

Commenters were stunned by this hilarious kitty’s reaction. @ghluehghoulette spoke the truth with, “That was such a pronounced ‘woof.'” There is no mistaking this sound.

Others got into her mind with @misosoup224 envisioning, “When the main language doesn’t have enough insults so I start talking other languages.” Everyone needs a bilingual cat.

“CUT! Your line is ‘Meow,'” @scott_e_brown added. She definitely seems to be confused about her origins. And so was poster @usernameisnotfound__’s pup, “My dog woke up and looked around.” Well, it’s official. Little Sage speaks canine.

We enjoyed Sage’s other escapades as well, including one that showcased her patience as she waited for dinner. You’ll be surprised to see that she doesn’t start bark all the time. It looks like Sage saves those arfs for special occasions.

Viewer @chloetaysversion remarked, “My cats meow so loud and cry for food when I’m literally preparing it for them.” Her cat mom assured us that Sage “goes crazy” as soon as dinner is on the way, too.

In my household, we have a bit of the reverse, because all Chihuahuas are part cat. Mine enjoy lying in boxes, arching their backs when stretching, and purring (no, really). Still those antics don’t quite live up to an actual barking feline (and they would never stoop to a meow).

Can a cat bark like a dog?

Well… kind of, as is so often the case. Cats can’t bark exactly like dogs. But they can approximate the sound, perhaps intentionally. You read that right, some cats who grow up with dogs will mimic a bark. Mousers are actually quite good at this and can copycat many sounds.

Even in the wild, cats communicate with each other, including using special voices and mimicking their prey. While it seems strange to us, this may have developed to lure prey to them when they caught all of their meals. A house cat doesn’t need to hunt for food but instead uses this superpower to get special attention from their human. We feel confident Sage is getting enough pets from what we saw in this video.

Alternatively, these beasties sometimes make a woofing noise that’s really a “forced meow” as it is sometimes known. Normally in response to prey, it’s a deep guttural sound that might take you by surprise. Lastly, rarely your cat may make a strange vocalization because of a medical issue or even a cold. You can always take a video, like Sage’s mom did, and send to your vet to make sure everything’s good. In this case, we think she’s just speaking her truth.
