7 Cute Dog Breeds That Start With ‘C’ Who Spark Happiness

Words like “loyalty” and “unconditional love” are commonly used by people when they talk about the type of relationship they want to have with their future dog, and for good reason. In fact, to help you narrow them down, we gathered 5 dog breeds that start with ‘C’ who spark happiness.

Loving a dog is as easy as A, B, C—no matter what letter their breed or first name starts with. However, some vets have a special place in their hearts for dog breeds that start with ‘C,’ which stands for more than cute.

“Dogs help us with stress, loneliness, social interactions and make our lives better,” says Dr. Heather Berst, MA, VMD, the medical lead at Zoetis. “They are always happy to see us and truly are our best friends.”

This dog breed that starts with ‘C’ is as sweet as pie and playful to boot, say our experts.

“Cocker Spaniels can make your heart melt with their soulful eyes,” swoons Dr. Liza Cahn, DVM, a veterinarian at Embrace Pet Insurance.

Cocker Spaniels are easy to love, but they will need some regular trips to the groomer to look their best. “Their gorgeous, flowing coats need regular grooming to stay healthy, but their cheerful personalities make the extra effort worthwhile,” reports Dr. Victoria Carmella, DVM, veterinary advisor at Pet Honesty.

You may be more familiar with another Corgi: The Pembroke. However, since we’re talking about dog breeds that start with ‘C,’ meet the Cardigan Welsh Corgi. Dr. Cahn explains that you can distinguish the two herding pups by their size and tail type. The Pembroke has a short tail, while the Cardigan is larger and has a longer tail. Yet, the Pembroke and Cardigan Corgi are basically twinning in the personality department.

“They share a joyful personality and intelligent charm,” Dr. Cahn says. While Dr. Berst adds, “Corgis are feisty and intelligent, and they are very fun to be around.”

Dr. Cahn shares that they are not lazy dogs, though. “Corgis are active and vocal dogs, so they require daily mental stimulation and moderate exercise.” Dr. Berst concurs and mentions that it’s important to keep an eye on their backs as Corgis’ long bodies put them at a higher risk for back issues. Still, she says loving one is a cinch.

Dr. Berst states that she has actually rescued three Chinese Crested dogs, and her life is pure sunshine because of the nearly hairless pups. So, it’s no wonder this dog breed that starts with ‘C’ made the list.

“They have an animated, fun, quirky personality,” Dr. Berst reveals. “Plus, you have to mention that they look unique. Though, you have to remember that they can be fragile, so sometimes it’s best to avoid homes with small children.”

Because of their coats, Dr. Berst reports it’s important to also use sunscreen on a Chinese Crested and to be ready to care for them differently than some other dogs. “Keep in mind that they also do get cold easily and they tend to have dental problems if you get one of these,” she says.
