Two dogs were still missing from their kennels on Thursday morning.
AUSTIN, Texas — Multiple animals were released from their kennels at Austin Pets Alive! (APA!) during an overnight break-in that resulted in one dog’s death and injuries to several others.
APA! said the incident happened at its Town Lake Animal Center on West Cesar Chavez Street. A person allegedly forcibly entered the facility and damaged the keypad system.
When the intruder made their way inside the facility, the majority of the dogs were released from their kennels, APA! said. The shelter said an overnight security officer tried to contain the dogs, but APA! staff wasn’t notified until 6 a.m. Thursday.
APA! said the incident resulted in several dog altercations. One dog died, and five others were injured.
The injured dogs are receiving care and remain in stable condition. All of the cats in the facility have been reported safe and were unharmed during the break-in.

APA! said during the break-in, several dogs were missing after all the gates were opened. All but two of the dogs had been safely located by Thursday morning, but Fish Stick Jones and Lynette are still missing.
Volunteers and staff continue to actively search for the missing dogs. APA! said it is organizing a search party to locate Fish Stock Jones and Lynette. Those willing to help are encouraged to visit APA! at 1156 W. Cesar Chavez.
Anyone with information about the alleged break-in, or who spots one of the missing dogs, is urged to contact APA! immediately at 512-663-8643.
