Arizona Athletics Partners with UA’s Norton School of Human Ecology to Launch Personal Brand and Money Management Minor

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Athletics announced Tuesday that it has partnered with University of Arizona’s Norton School of Human Ecology to launch an 18-unit undergraduate minor in Personal Brand and Money Management.

The minor will leverage existing Norton School curriculum to create a concentrated course of study that focuses on two areas of modern life that increasingly require self-management skills – finances and professional identity.

The new minor further strengthens Arizona Athletics’ partnership with the Norton School, which is housed within the university’s College of Agriculture, Life & Environmental Sciences (CALES).

“We are grateful to partner with The Norton School on this impactful and innovative program,” said R. Ken Coit Director of Athletics Desireé Reed-Francois. “The Personal Brand and Money Management minor is imperative for our student-athletes in this new era of college athletics. It equips them to leverage their NIL opportunities here at the University of Arizona, build their brand, and learn valuable financial management skills that will position them as leaders in whatever career path they pursue after graduation.”

The coursework covers personal finance, retail brand strategy, digital media, and leadership, giving Arizona students the tools to strategically develop both their personal brand and financial plan with confidence.

“The Personal Brand and Money Management minor is about supporting leaders in the making,” said Laura Scaramella, Director of the Norton School. “We are excited to connect this minor into a course of study that students can pursue alongside virtually any major.”

In addition to the coursework, students can also take advantage of learning spaces such as the CALES’ Financial Planning Lab — which was launched last year with support from Schwab Advisor Services and the Charles Schwab Foundation – and the digital makerspaces for podcasting and digital storytelling.

The partnership with the Norton School is the latest offering from Arizona Athletics’ C.A.T.S. Program (Commitment to an Athlete’s Total Success), a comprehensive student-athlete support services program that covers academics, student-athlete development, career placement, strength and conditioning, medical services and sports psychology.

“Personal branding and money management knowledge is critical for anyone entering today’s workforce,” said Rachel Blunt, Senior Director Associate Athletic Director of Strategic Operations and Senior Woman Administrator. “This new minor syncs perfectly with our mission at C.A.T.S., which is to help our student-athletes develop skills they can use wherever life takes them after graduation.”
