Samsung promotes an ethical AI with social impact


Samsung Electronics Iberia has celebrated this Thursday in Madrid a new edition of Samsung Innovation Campus Summit, under the slogan “AI for a Better World.” The forum has brought together institutional representatives, specialists, and professionals with the aim of discussing how to move from the theoretical promises of artificial intelligence to concrete, responsible uses with a positive impact on society.

Throughout the day, the major challenges posed by the development and implementation of AI have been put on the table, from ethics and governance to its use in areas such as education, healthcare, accessibility, or entrepreneurship.

Attendees have emphasized that the true value of this technology does not lie only in its technical power, but in the way it is incorporated into daily life under parameters of trust, human supervision, and responsibility.

In this line, the Corporate Marketing and Communication Director of Samsung Electronics Iberia, Elena Fernández Angulo, has highlighted that AI “is entering a stage where it is no longer enough to talk about everything it can do,” stressing that the challenge now is “to turn that potential into useful solutions for people and to do so in a responsible and trustworthy manner,” a purpose to which the company aspires to contribute through technology, training, talent, and alliances.

At the meeting, among others, the General Secretary of Vocational Training of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, Esther Monterrubio; the Digitalization Counselor of the Community of Madrid, Miguel López-Valverde Argüeso, responsible for closing the session; the founder and president of OdiseIA, Idoia Salazar; the speaker and entrepreneur Mago More; the CFO of Libelium, Raquel Pelegrín; the founder and CEO of Bluebarna Ecosystems, Orlando Vergara; the director of the UGR-Ciudad Autónoma de Ceuta Chair in AI, Fernando Trujillo; and the head of R&D+i projects of Fundación ONCE, Jesica Rivero, have participated.

Practical applications, ethics, and governance

One of the central blocks of the program has been dedicated to examining how AI generates real value through use cases that demonstrate its ability to personalize teaching, support clinical processes, improve data and resource management, or enhance the autonomy of people with disabilities, always maintaining human intervention, transparency, and collaboration between public and private actors.

In addition, the president of OdiseIA, Idoia Salazar, and the journalist and analyst Alberto Iglesias Fraga have delved into the ethical and governance challenges posed by the massive adoption of AI, while the co-founder of AIKO, Carlos Gómez González, has addressed how this technology is changing access to information and the consequences it has for entrepreneurs and digital projects.

II edition of the National Artificial Intelligence Awards

The event has also served as a framework for the delivery of the II edition of the “National Artificial Intelligence Awards,” awards that distinguish initiatives developed by students of Samsung Innovation Campus aimed at solving specific challenges of society.

In the general category, the award has gone to “LiveR,” a clinical decision support tool in liver transplants created by Joaquín Berenguer and Sergio Tordera (Universitat Politècnica de València), in collaboration with the La Fe Health Research Institute.

The system uses AI to refine the matching between donors and recipients and promote better outcomes after the intervention, acting as a complement to medical criteria and without replacing the judgment of health professionals.

In the category linked to the Spanish Paralympic Committee, the awarded project has been “ParaTalent Hub,” driven by Ignacio Jiménez, Miguel Martín Rodrigo, and Juan Sebastián Flores Olivos (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid).

This platform uses AI to support functional classification and talent identification in Paralympic sports through the analysis of profiles and datasets.

Digital talent and training in AI

The promotion of digital skills has focused the final stretch of the event. Through Samsung Innovation Campus, the company offers free training in disciplines such as AI, IoT, Big Data, and programming, in collaboration with universities and educational entities.

So far, the program has delivered more than 90 courses and trained over 1,900 students, with the goal of strengthening digital competencies and the employability of young people, promoting that they apply their technical knowledge with judgment, responsibility, and a clearly practical orientation.
