Here’s a look at some of the top stories this week in the Akron area.
Cleveland 19 News reporter Harry Boomer will retire next week, according to Cleveland 19 News.
Boomer is the outlet’s longest-serving reporter. He is currently a senior reporter, executive producer and host of WUAB 43 Forum, which covers public affairs and community issues, according to his bio on 19 News’ website.
He has 36 years of news experience in Cleveland and has 55 total years of broadcasting experience.
Boomer has served as president of the Greater Cleveland Chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists three times and has won numerous awards for his work.
Boomer was presented with a special proclamation Aug. 25 by Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb.
“I just want to thank you, Harry, for all the great work you’ve done to elevate Cleveland, elevate the forgotten and giving people like me a voice and the ability to make change,” Bibb said in a 19 News video.
