State Farm Dividend Scam Warning for Illinois Customers

If you’re a State Farm customer in Illinois who is worried that the dividend payment email you received is a scam, here are a few ways to verify if it’s legit.

Beware of State Farm Dividend Scams

The other day I opened my email to find a message from State Farm saying I was receiving a dividend payment and my first thought was: Wait… is this actually real?

Unfortunately, we spend so much time being warned about scam emails that even though I am a long-time State Farm customer, this email promising money immediately had my Spidey senses tingling.

Is State Farm really issuing dividend payments to qualified customers? Yes. State Farm is distributing a whopping $5 billion to qualifying auto insurance customers, and yes, State Farm customers are being contacted by email about the payment.

Here’s the main reason I’m concerned: I think my husband’s email address is the only one listed on our account. So, how do I know if the email I received is for real?

How to Verify State Farm Dividend Payments

Since I’m not one to walk away from “free” money, I did some research to confirm my dividend payment email is legitimate.

This is the part you really want to pay attention to.

According to State Farm, the dividend payment email should come from: donotreply@e.sfdividend.com.

Pay close attention to the sender address your email came from. Scammers love to create addresses and websites that look almost identical to the real thing.

The email will then direct you to the State Farm Dividend Payment Portal, which is powered by Verita. The website is sfdividend.com. (Pay close attention to that address too.)

State Farm Dividend Scam Red Flags

After logging into the State Farm Dividend Payment Portal with the information included in my email, my payment amount was listed and it asked how I wanted to receive it. That’s it.

Here are the important things the Dividend Payment Portal did NOT ask me to do:

Pay a fee to receive my dividend payment. (You shouldn’t have to send money to get money. Period.)
Provide personal information like my email password, banking password, or digital wallet password. (The legit website provides three payment options to choose from: PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle.)

Please remember that just because an email has the State Farm logo and looks professional doesn’t automatically make it legitimate. Scammers are VERY good at making fake emails look real.
