“GET READY ASSUMPTION HIGH SCHOOL” goes the caption, crudely superimposed over a sloptastic “TAKE OVER” logo under a photomontage of the Assumption Parish High School and Mike Myers’ famously execrable Cat in the Hat. But it turns out this is just a educational recreation of another circulating meme that had officials there alarmed and uneasy.
Officials have shared an image demonstrating what the threatening reel could look like. [Assumption Parish] Sheriff [Leland] Falcon stresses that this attached image was created by the sheriff’s office strictly as an example and is not an actual threat that was made to any school.
So what was the real message?
The threat, which has appeared on TikTok, is a “Cat in the Hat” themed reel that uses Dr. Seuss-style rhyming verbiage to threaten violence against schools and individuals. While the post has been spotted in surrounding parishes, the sheriff’s office says it is prepared to aggressively respond to any similar activity that may occur in Assumption Parish.
“Anyone who creates or shares these threats on social media can face severe consequences from law enforcement and the school board,” the sheriff’s office warns, unless, of course, it’s the sheriff’s office doing it, just to show how it’s done.
Attempts to locate the specific video in question run into the general mass of compilations: ominous “Cat in the Hat” clips are a current trend and local news outsets across the nation are chronicling the resulting hysteria.
