Instagram changed its wordmark; Brands changed theirs too

New Delhi: Instagram changed its wordmark after nearly a decade, and brands did not take long to turn the redesign into their own social media moment.

The Meta-owned platform replaced its familiar cursive lettering with a cleaner, more contemporary treatment while keeping its multicoloured camera icon unchanged. Instagram head Adam Mosseri said the older wordmark had started to feel dated.

“We updated the Instagram wordmark today, which is more than a decade old and felt dated. We feel the refresh is sharper and more modern, but references the original and has the simplicity and craft that’s always made it Instagram,” Mosseri said.

Within hours, the new lettering became a template for brand creatives.

Faasos stretched its name into “Faaaaaahsos”, Instamart played with its naturally convenient “Insta” connection, while YesMadam, Manforce, Coinbase and OPPO Care reworked their names using variations of Instagram’s new curves and letterforms.

The trend also spilled beyond conventional brand names, with a “chatjipiti” version giving the format a phonetic internet twist.

Some brands kept the stripped-back look associated with Instagram’s refresh, while others retained their own colours and visual identity. The common thread was simple: take a familiar name and imagine what it would look like after an Instagram-style redesign.

For Instagram, it was a wordmark update. For social media teams, it became the day’s ready-made creative brief.
