Cedar Rapids woman, pets killed in house fire early Tuesday morning


A Cedar Rapids woman an her pets were killed in a house fire early Tuesday morning.

Cedar Rapids firefighters responded to the fire in the 2600 block of Fruitland Blvd SW just before 5 a.m.

Crews arrived to find widespread fire showing from the home and began working on putting the fire out and rescue efforts.

One person escaped the home and was taken to the hospital for potentially serious injuries. Firefighters found a woman who had died in the fire.

Crews also located a cat and a dog who died.

The fire was put out and under control before 6 a.m. The name of the victim is not being released at this time.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
