Google is introducing a series of updates to its AI-powered Search experiences aimed at helping users discover more relevant websites, trusted sources, and authentic online voices as generative artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into online search.
The company, in a statement, said the enhancements apply to AI-powered Search features such as AI Mode and AI Overviews, which generate summarized responses while guiding users toward additional information across the web.
Google said the latest updates are designed to improve how links are displayed inside AI-generated responses and make it easier for users to access original content, news sources, public discussions, and in-depth analyses.

Deeper discovery
One of the new features allows users to explore additional perspectives related to their searches through suggested follow-up links placed at the end of AI-generated responses.
According to Google, the feature helps users continue exploring a topic beyond the initial summary by surfacing related articles, reports, and analyses from across the web.
For example, a search involving the history of Philippine tourist destinations may include links to articles discussing Boracay’s development into a global tourism hotspot.
Google said the goal is to make AI-generated answers a starting point for broader discovery rather than a replacement for web content.
The company is also introducing a feature that highlights links from users’ news subscriptions directly inside AI Mode and AI Overviews.
The update is intended to help users quickly locate content from trusted publishers and maximize the value of existing subscriptions.
Authentic voices
Google said the updated AI Search experience will also place greater emphasis on firsthand perspectives and public online discussions.
For selected queries, AI-generated responses will now include previews of conversations from forums, social media platforms, and online communities.
The company said the feature reflects growing user interest in advice and experiences shared by real people, particularly for travel, lifestyle, and consumer-related searches.
Additional context such as creator names, social handles, or community titles will also appear alongside discussion links to help users identify relevant conversations.
For example, a search related to traveling in Sagada or hiking destinations in Luzon may surface insights from travel communities discussing booking tips, itineraries, or safety reminders.
Google said these updates are intended to help users better evaluate the sources of information before opening external links.
Inline links
Another update introduces more inline links directly embedded within AI-generated responses.
Google said these links will appear beside related text or bullet points, allowing users to quickly access supporting websites while reading AI summaries.
For instance, a search involving an Intramuros walking tour may include links to tour guides or route recommendations placed next to descriptions of specific stops or attractions.
The company said embedding links within AI-generated responses creates a more seamless experience for users seeking additional details.
Google is also adding website previews to desktop AI Search experiences.
When hovering over inline links, users will see short previews containing information such as the website name or page title before clicking through.
Google said the feature addresses hesitation among users who may be uncertain about where a link leads.
Search evolution
The company said it continues to refine how links are ranked and surfaced within generative AI Search experiences using techniques such as “query fan-out,” which helps Search identify more relevant websites related to a user’s query.
Google emphasized that the broader objective is to connect users with the richness of the web while supporting creators, publishers, and original sources of information.
By improving link visibility and surfacing diverse perspectives, the company said AI-powered Search can help users discover authoritative content while encouraging deeper engagement with online communities and publishers.
Google added that it will continue testing and refining the new features based on user feedback and browsing behavior as generative AI becomes a larger part of the Search experience. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
