The Fun Dog Show returns as a Sunday highlight at Marbury Merry Days, a family-friendly country fair held in the village of Marbury (SY13 4LN) on May 9 and 10, 2026.
Now in its 45th year, the fair promises a weekend of entertainment and tradition beside St Michael & All Angels Parish Church and the scenic Marbury Big Mere.
A spokesperson for Marbury Merry Days said: “The Fun Dog Show is always one of the most joyful parts of the weekend. It’s not about perfection — it’s about personality, fun and celebrating the special bond between owners and their dogs. We can’t wait to welcome wagging tails from across the community.”
The dog show will be held on Sunday, May 10, and features seven classes: Sweetest Puppy, Golden Oldie, Prettiest Girl, Handsome Chap, Best Rescue, Young Handler, and Friendliest Dog.
Entries can be made on the day at the Church Terrace, with judging starting at 12.45pm.
The overall “Best in Show” will be crowned in the Main Ring at 3pm, with judging by well-known local vet Steve Leonard.
This class is sponsored by Leonard Brothers Vets.
Entry is £1 per class, with all proceeds supporting the upkeep of the parish church.
The dog show is sponsored by Phoenix Vet Practice and Bradeley Green Pet Store.
Beyond the canine competition, the fair offers a packed weekend of entertainment for all ages.
One of the main attractions is The Sealed Knot, Europe’s largest re-enactment society, which will recreate the sights and sounds of the English Civil War with immersive camps, battle displays, musket volleys, and cannon fire.
Other highlights include puppet shows from Pinxton Puppets, model flying displays, classic cars and vintage tractors, and performances from the Wirral Pipe Band.
Traditional games such as the coconut shy and splat-the-rat will also feature alongside a straw bale maze and golf putting.
Visitors can browse craft and tea tents, plant and cake stalls, bric-a-brac and book stands, and pre-loved clothing and homeware.
Inside the church, a floral display will be open to visitors throughout the weekend.
Saturday’s entertainment includes Maypole dancing by pupils from Wrenbury School, a performance from Glo*s Dance Troupe, and the Stafford Morris Dancers.
Gates open at 12.30pm on both days.
Admission is £7.50 for adults, and £1 for children under 16, or free if accompanied by an adult.
Parking is free.
