The artificial intelligence landscape is changing rapidly. First, the tech companies compete for efficient AI models, then comes the race to build agentic AI systems. Now AI-powered cybersecurity models have taken the center stage.

Anthropic was the first one to unveil Claude Mythos Preview, an AI frontier model equipped with unprecedented cyber capabilities. OpenAI has also stepped up the efforts to develop models to tackle growing cyber threats.

Taking to X, the CEO of ChatGPT maker company revealed that the company is all set to launch the GPT-5.5 Cyber model to tackle the menaces of cyber attacks.

“We’re starting the rollout of GPT-5.5-Cyber, a frontier cybersecurity model, to critical cyber defenders in the next few days,” Altman said.

Talking about the accessibility of the frontier cybersecurity model, OpenAI CEO said initially only the critical cyber defenders would have the access in collaboration with government and industry players.

He continued, “We will work with the entire ecosystem and the government to figure out trusted access for cyber; we want to rapidly help secure companies/infrastructure.”

The announcement comes after the release of GPT-5.4 Cyber some weeks earlier, highlighting the growing pace of development in the cybersecurity category.

The details regarding the features and capabilities of GPT-5.5 have not been disclosed yet. But it is assumed that the upcoming model will outperform all of its predecessors.

GPT-5.4 was built to assist cybersecurity professionals by giving them easy access to advanced analysis tools. Its key feature also includes “binary reverse engineering”, allowing the experts to assess compiled software for vulnerabilities and malware without needing the original source code.

Last week, OpenAI also released the new model GPT-5.5, describing it as the smartest and most intuitive model so far.

The model is designed to excel across diverse domains like creative writing, programming, coding, data analysis, research and programming. At the heart of its upgrade lies advanced intent recognition.
