Major sports complex adds new fields and other facilities in Mississauga

A huge sports complex in Mississauga’s west end has gotten even bigger — and the results will be on display this weekend.

The City of Mississauga is hosting the official opening of Mattamy Sports Park’s phase two development on Saturday from 1-4 p.m. The community is welcome to attend and take a tour of the sports facility, and participate in family games and other activities.

Phase two park amenities include:

  • A lit cricket pitch with an artificial turf infield and wicket, bleacher seating and batting cage.
  • Multi-purpose artificial turf field for field hockey and soccer.
  • An indoor, covered tennis facility with seven courts for tennis and pickleball, delivered in partnership with Premier Racquet Club.
  • Natural areas and a stormwater management pond.
  • Shaded pavilions, a picnic event space and trail system that includes a five-kilometre multi‑use trail loop with fitness stations.

The sports complex, located next to the $51-million “state-of-the-art” Churchill Meadows Community Centre on Ninth Line (both opened in late 2021), was initially outfitted with amenities including basketball courts, outdoor fitness equipment, a playground, skateboard area, lit sports field, spray pad and a leash-free dog park.

As part of phase two in the development of Mattamy Sports Park, a new domed tennis and pickleball facility that offers year-round play opened in November 2024.

And that’s being followed by this spring’s introduction of the new cricket pitch, multi-purpose field and nearby multi-use trail.

Mattamy Sports Park, named in June 2022, spreads out over 57 acres and first opened in October 2021 as part of Churchill Meadows Community Centre.

Mississauga Ward 10 Coun. Sue McFadden said earlier she’s looking forward to “the completion of all of these additional amenities to complete Mattamy Sports Park.”

Speaking in 2024, she noted the sports complex, when fully formed, will be suitable for “leisure recreation from local pickup sports to hosting international tournaments and everything in between.”

The $4.3-million Premier Racquet Clubs Mississauga, the domed tennis and pickleball facility that opened on site in November 2024, was spearheaded by the City of Mississauga in partnership with Premier Racquet Clubs and Tennis Canada. It’s the first such facility available to all residents of the city and not only those with club memberships.

Saturday’s official opening will take place rain or shine, organizers said. Admission is free.
