On Friday, Claremont Fire Officials responded to a structure fire on Main Street in Claremont.When crews arrived, they found heavy fire showing from the second floor of a four-story residential building. Crews were able to quickly knock down the main body of the fire.Additional crews arrived on scene to conduct primary and secondary searching throughout the building, and safety rescued several pets.The Claremont Fire Department was assisted by the Windsor, Vermont Fire Department, Newport Fire Department, and station coverage from Unity Fire Department and Weathersfield, Vermont Fire Department. Additional assistance was provided by the Golden Cross Ambulance, which treated one person for minor injuries, as well as the Claremont Police Department, the Department of Public Works and the local building inspector. Due to the significant fire and water damage, the building was deemed unsafe for occupancy. Fire officials worked with the American Red Cross to provide assistance to approximately 10 displaced residents.The cause of the fire remains under investigation with the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office.
