New professional softball team to play in Round Rock

ROUND ROCK, Texas — The Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL) announced on Jan. 13 that a new professional softball team will be calling Round Rock home.

The team, called the Texas Volts, will be playing at the Dell Diamond, according to a news release from the City of Round Rock. The team will be managed by former Olympic softball player Cat Osterman and will be coached by veterans of college softball in Texas, including the former head coach of Texas State, Ricci Woodward.

According to the release, Woodward “amassed an 878-521-2 (.627) record over 25 seasons at Texas State, mentoring 102 all-conference selections, 35 all-region honorees, and six NFCA All-Americans.”

Round Rock Mayor Craig Morgan said he is excited about the team and the hopefulness that the team will add to Round Rock’s prestige in sports.

“As the Sports Capital of Texas, it’s only fitting that we house the highest level of professional softball in Round Rock,” Morgan said. “[The] Dell Diamond has been a cornerstone of our community for over 25 years and the addition of the Texas Volts further strengthens its remarkable legacy.”

The Volts will be playing against the Carolina Blaze, Chicago Bandits, Oklahoma City Spark, Portland Cascade and the Utah Talons throughout the inaugural season, which is set to begin on June 9, 2026.
