Kelley business school to launch new co-major ‘Sports Capital of the World’ – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana Traffic


INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — IU Kelley School of Business Indianapolis is excited to launch its new Business of Sports co-major, “Sports Capital of the World,” in August.

The program is designed to develop an innovative talent pool ready to make an impact in the sports industry. The Business of Sports co-major adds 15-credit hours to Kelley’s six core majors: accounting, finance, human resource management, marketing, and supply chain management.

“Indy’s success in the sports ecosystem and its ability to hold word-class events are central to the city’s DNA,” said Mark Mayer, Kelley Indianapolis undergraduate faculty chair. “Launching this co-major shows how Kelley is aligning with what matters to Indianapolis and how our graduates can help drive that success.”

Kelley Indy’s new co-major aligns with its 2050 Vision strategy, which focuses on partnering with Indiana’s higher education institutions to strengthen sports education programs and position the state as a leading destination for students pursuing careers in sports.

Indianapolis is known as “The Sports Capital of the World,” and is home to major sports organizations including:

  • Indianapolis 500 and surrounding Motorsports industry
  • Colts (NFL)
  • Fever (WNBA)
  • Pacers (NBA)
  • NCAA headquarters
  • USA Track & Field
  • USA Gymnastics

In 2025, Indianapolis hosted the NBA and WNBA All-Star Games, the NFL Combine, and collegiate athletics championships. In 2026, Indianapolis is scheduled to host:

  • Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament
  • Horizon League Basketball Championships
  • NCAA Men’s Final Four
  • USA Track & Field Championships
  • LIV Golf Indianapolis
  • Big Ten Football Championship

From professional teams to national governing bodies, Indianapolis is home to organizations that shape the industry and host world-class events year after year.
