Going up! The internet is cracking up over the way a Dachshund gets up to snuggle with his dad. Some dogs have little ramps to get them up to high places, but Ben Slink has something better — an “elevator” that gets him where he wants to go.
Every pet has their weird little quirks, don’t they? The Dachshund certainly has some, and his humans showed it off in a hilarious video online.
Dachshunds have it rough in this world. With their small legs and long bodies, everything is out of their reach! That’s why many Dachshund parents come up with all sorts of tricks to make life easier for their pups.

The way that 3-year-old Ben Slink gets up on his dad’s recliner is too hilarious. The dog stands up on his hind legs so that his front paws rest on the seat. Then his dad reclines the chair back, the dog gets lifted in the air, and then he scuttles his body up. Ta-da! Success!
The family has a funny name for the recliner too:
“Ben Slink using his elevator,” they joked in the video’s text overlay. His elevator! Doesn’t that just crack you up?
Does Your Dog Need a Ramp?
While this solution works for Ben Slink, not everyone has a recliner at home to get their pup around. In those cases, a ramp or dog staircase might be the answer. Here are some ways you can tell if your dog needs one of these tools!
First things first, there is no shame in your dog getting a little assistance. Many dogs need ramps or staircases, like arthritic dogs who have trouble with joint pain. Ramps can lessen the stress on their joints, especially if your dog likes to hop down from high places.
Both very large dogs and very small dogs can use ramps or staircases. Small dogs can use them to get down from high places and large dogs can use them in cars where it might be too hard for them to get down from their seat. Lifting a large dog is dangerous too, so a ramp or staircase can protect both of you.
If you’re really unsure, ask your veterinarian. They’ll help you make the call that’s right for your pet.
