“This message constitutes an attempt at fraud, with the aim of inducing voters to access a malicious link”, according to a statement released by the CNE, which recommends that all citizens not access the link and delete the email.
According to the statement, in the event that anyone has accessed the link or provided any type of information, they should “report the incident to the competent authorities, namely the Judicial Police and the National Cyber Security Centre”.
In the same note, the CNE took the opportunity to remind that there is no online voting and that voting in Portugal is “in person and exercised directly by the voter” under the terms of the law.
“The Commission is monitoring this situation in conjunction with the entities responsible for digital security and will continue to adopt all necessary measures to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process”, concludes the note.
