The best methods to make gold in Oblivion Remastered can also be pursued immediately, though some routes require more effort than others. We’ve included both passive and active ways to continue earning money throughout your game, allowing you to compound your earnings early to nab some of the best items you can buy in the Imperial City Market District.

Invest In Your Luck

The luck attribute and what it does in Oblivion Remastered.

While Luck’s usefulness in the original game was hotly debated, Oblivion Remastered seems to have made some significant changes to its effects. As evidenced by the notable update to its flavor text, Luck now governs your skills in addition to everything you do.

Luck can only be upgraded by one point every level, and 50 Luck is considered the base value (no bonus or penalty). For every point that your Luck is below 50, your luck gets worse, while it improves at every rank above 50.

Luck also affects the loot you receive, so increasing your Luck will make it more likely that you find higher amounts of gold in chests and other containers. If you want a leg up without doing anything besides investing some of your Attribute points, then Luck is a great start.

Fight In The Arena

Fighting in the Arena in Oblivion Remastered.

With luck on your side, you should turn your attention to the Imperial City Arena as soon as you can. Here, you have two methods of earning money:

  1. Gamble on Arena matches by betting at the entrance
  2. Compete as a fighter in the Arena and earn your glory

Thanks to the increase you gave your Luck Attribute, your odds of winning any bets you make at the Arena are increased, so you can gamble your way to glory if that’s your preferred method of making gold in Oblivion Remastered.

The route to becoming Arena Grand Champion is littered with several fights, each offering a nice chunk of gold as a reward for your efforts. You’ll earn thousands of gold for fighting your way to the top, and can even get a guaranteed victory in the last fight by completing The Gray Prince’s quest. You can even return to the Arena once per week to earn endless gold by defeating creatures.

Sell Stolen Items

Stealing Jewelry in Oblivion Remastered.

While it’s a naughty thing to do, stealing is one of the most lucrative ways to make money in Oblivion Remastered. However, crime doesn’t pay unless you’re a criminal, so you should join The Thieves Guild first, otherwise you won’t be able to sell your stolen merchandise to honest merchants, as only Thieves Guild members buy stolen goods.

However, the best things to steal in Oblivion Remastered are often secured behind locks, so you should hone your lockpicking skills to ensure you can access the best loot. Selling stolen goods also opens the door to more lucrative Thieves Guild quests, so your profits will quickly multiply.

5

Perform Dark Brotherhood Contracts

If you’d prefer to kill for your money rather than steal, then the Dark Brotherhood offers several contracts you can undertake, which will earn you up to 600 gold each, depending on how high your level is (200 gold is a standard reward at earlier levels). In addition to the base rewards, you can sometimes earn bonus rewards by completing contracts in a specific manner.

Completing these bonus objectives will often net you unique items, which can help you improve your killer instincts or be sold for large sums of gold. Even if you would rather keep all the special items you earn, you can continue accepting contracts after the end of this quest line, so it provides another unlimited source of money, like the Arena.

4

Sell Daedric Artifacts And Items With Strong Enchantments

Daedric Shrines become available early, with Daedric lords like Vaermina requiring a minimum level of five to take on these requests. Each Daedra has an associated quest along with a unique token reward that you’ll receive for doing their bidding. While you’ll need to sacrifice one of these items during the main quest, the rest are yours to do with as you please.

While many of these rewards are worth keeping forever, any that you’ll never use should be sold off for money, as you can earn thousands of coins fast by selling off your rare artifacts. You should only sell expensive artifacts to merchants with a high amount of gold, or the amount you receive will be capped at their maximum.

3

Sell Filled Soul Gems

Looking at Grand Soul Gems in the Mages Guild in Oblivion Remastered.

Soul Gems are one of the most lucrative items to sell in Oblivion Remastered, as these rare magical objects typically weigh under one unit and can cost hundreds of coins, depending on their size and the size of the soul contained within. Filling these gems with souls makes them more valuable, so you can turn a profit by slaying enemies.

The size of a Soul Gem determines the maximum size of the soul it can hold, so you may need to kill lesser enemies to fill all your Soul Gems.

Grab some empty Soul Gems and use the Soul Trap spell (or a weapon with the Soul Trap enchantment), then slash away at enemies to fill your Soul Gems. However, this method can be difficult to balance with your needs, as enchanted weapons require Soul Gems to refill their charges.

2

Brew & Sell Potions

If you want to craft something to sell but want to hang onto your Soul Gems for weapon recharges, then potions offer the perfect alternative. This is the most time-consuming way to make money, as it requires you to level up your Alchemy and Mercantile in addition to gathering brewing materials, but it pays off exceptionally well.

Potions and poisons can sell for hundreds of gold, especially if you focus on effects that restore or drain health, as these typically command the most money. If you’re an Alchemist who already enjoys brewing potions, then this may be the best method of making money in Oblivion Remastered, as it will also help you level up fast.

Become Master Of The Fighters Guild

The Fighters Guild is an excellent source of passive income if you’re willing to put in the work up front to make your way through the entire guild questline. While this can be a slog, it’s worth your time if you want to earn tons of money throughout your Oblivion Remastered run.

Once you’re the Master, you gain access to a special Guildmaster’s Chest in Chorrol, which you can check monthly for free passive income. If you don’t mind using the ‘wait’ feature, you can intertwine once-per-week Arena fights with this monthly stipend to grind endless gold in Oblivion Remastered.
