You won’t see Atlas or Unitree’s H1 in M3GAN 2.0, but the first trailer does tease a new Amelia AI robot. Set to hit theaters on June 27, this sequel picks up two years after the events of the first movie, where the AI doll M3GAN went on a rampage before being destroyed.
In this installment, M3GAN’s creator, Gemma (Allison Williams), has become a prominent author and advocate for AI regulation. Meanwhile, her niece Cady (Violet McGraw), now 14, is a rebellious teenager chafing under Gemma’s strict rules. A defense contractor is discovered to have stolen M3GAN’s technology to create Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno), a military-grade AI weapon designed as the ultimate infiltration spy.

As Amelia becomes self-aware and turns against humanity, Gemma decides to resurrect M3GAN, giving her upgrades to make her faster, stronger, and more lethal, pitting the original AI against this new threat. The returning cast includes Brian Jordan Alvarez and Jen Van Epps as Gemma’s colleagues, with new additions like Jemaine Clement, Timm Sharp, and Aristotle Athari joining the fray. Amie Donald and Jenna Davis reprise their roles as M3GAN’s physical and vocal performers, respectively.
The trailer also gives us our first good look at Amelia, the new antagonist, as the two AIs prepare for an epic showdown. It’s got a Terminator 2-esque feel, with M3GAN positioned as an unlikely savior against a bigger threat.
